@prodnose [ aka Danny Baker ] tweeted today in response to the release of the Hillsborough Independent Panel report into the death of ninety-six fans after a crush at Sheffield Wednesday’s football ground on 15 April 1989. Mackenzie was the editor of the Sun newspaper (left) which rubbished the behaviour of football fans and attributed to them the greatest share of the blame for the fatalities. This version of events has been overturned in its entirety by the report released this week.” Mackenzie’s apology duly arrived at around 2:50pm via a Radio 5 live broadcast and was immediately rebuffed by a spokesperson for the families of the victims.

* Did Danny Baker not read his Bertrand Russell? - Ed. Probably. He tolerated for 23 years. Now it’s time to tell the **** to %$£”*

If you have ever wondered where the genus Troll originates (now the focus of much mock media shock) … look no further than Britain’s red tops, where snark remains the dish of the day. Here, left, is how the Sun found it in its heart to respond this morning to one of the most dramatic sports stories of the year: the semi-final of the Champions League featuring Chelsea and Barcelona. They decided to bury the lede as well as any trace of good taste or sporting feelgood and devote themselves intead to ridiculing the famously goal-shy Spanish striker Fernando Torres. Nice. Mind you, it seems the snark lives in the DNA of many News International hacks. Minutes after the end of the match, a still-panting Chelsea defender, Branislav Ivanovic, was met in the tunnel by a SkySports reporter who promptly chose not to celebrate with him but inform him that he was banned from competing in the Champions League final. He promptly followed up this “scoop” by attempting to prick the joy of Chelsea coach Roberto di Matteo — and any watching Chelsea fan — by asking him first-up about all the players that has been suspended. While I may personally delight in the sporting fall of Barcelona I still feel compelled to ask: who hires these bozos? News International … where snark is the national game.
